A large number of popular iOS applications, including Spotify, TikTok, Pinterest, and Tinder, have issues with Facebook’s software development kit because of an issue. As a result, many of these devices quickly crash when users try to open them.
In a GitHub post, developers identified the issue as a problem with Facebook’s SDK, which is used by users to provide the login function of the platform and to monitor ads. A move to the type of data that the Facebook SDK server provides when an application opens is causing the crash, according to a source familiar with the situation. Facebook appears to have made an upgrade to the database of its SDK to classify whether or not an app is health related.
One GitHub user claims the company had made a change to the server of its SDK about 2:30 p.m. Time Eastern While the change appears to have returned to Facebook, some apps still face problems. Facebook did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Users took to Twitter to vent about their favorite apps that unexpectedly crashed. Developers are also indignant. “This bug has negatively impacted a ton of apps + purchases, businesses lose money from bugs like this. Why shouldn’t we be mad?” wrote Daniel Beard, an iOS developer at Groupon, in the GitHub thread.
